Read to learn about our origin and who we are.
The Richmond Lions are a Division II Men’s Rugby Club competing in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union of USA Rugby. RLRFC fields sides in the Fall and Spring Season, as well as Summer 7s. Practices are held in Richmond on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with games on Saturdays when in season.
New players are welcome regardless of experience – reach out to us or simply show up to a practice. You can expect to build your fitness, compete alongside other athletes, and to find a great social atmosphere.
The history of the Richmond Lions RFC is derived from the storied origins of the Richmond Rugby Football Club and the Richmond Area Training Side (R.A.T.S.), founded by one of the early members of the Richmond RFC.
In 1995 the two clubs merged to form Richmond United. Moving forward towards the goal of gaining more recognition and establishing a brand, in 2004 United became known as the Richmond Lions.
